I gathered the children to sit on the carpet with me to choose a story for our transition from outside into our set

plans. I had asked questions to the children about the nature they saw outside. The story I chose for group time was

about nature and it's elements. The children enjoyed the story and how I was consistent with asking open ended

questions before, during and after story time. After finishing the book, I had the children engage in a group discussion

where they made comments related to illustrations of the story, and share personal experiences followed by a

drawing/colour nature activity.

Child A, her friends and myself are playing jump rope outside. Myself and Child A were holding the rope so her

friends can jump to songs like teddy bear and abc. I came up with an idea for Child A her and a friend to double up

the ropes to introduce "double dutch". This is where you spin one, followed by the other so it looks like they are

crossing over each other. This challenged the children to compare and contrast ideas about one rope versus using

two ropes.

I planned an activity for the children for St. Patrick's day. I ensured scaffolding children's learning by making an example of

how one should look first, so they can create their own, with their own imagination. I gathered all materials that were yellow

(pom-poms, tissue paper, feathers, pipe-cleaners, cut outs of yellow circles,) and placed them on the table, along with paper

bags to colour them black. The children loved this experience. There was lots of communicating and sharing amongst the

children. Some of the images I saw were lepricons with rainbows, four leaf clovers, and 3-d images of money as if the bag

was see through.

In group time, the children sang the colours of the Rainbow song. I set up a paper plate rainbow activity on

the table. I included a variety of strips of construction paper (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple) that

are used as colours for the rainbow, cotton balls for clouds and cut outs of paper plates to use as the sky. The

children were engaged with the activity and with each other. I explained the instructions and the children

were able to comprehend and start making their own rainbows.

During the second last week of placement, I took self initiative to sing and introduce Musical Instruments. I had Child

B hand out an instrument to each of his friends in group time. At first, we played copy the rhythm and the leader. I found

that this intrigued the children to participate more by hearing different sounds and taking turns with different instruments

. To change things up, I started to sing songs with the children such as marching ants, twinkle little star, and bear hunt.

Overall, the children enjoyed the music. Some of the kids asked if they could sing a song, so to end off the activity I had a

couple children sing and lead songs to their peers.

eSpontaneous Activity Six

Changing seasons from fall to winter, we now introduce new activities to the children. As the children have free

play outside, they were intrigued by pine cones. I set up a pine cone painting activity on the table. I ensured

there was enough pine cones for each child. I displayed red and green paint on the table, as they represent

colours for Christmas. The children engaged with each other. They had the chance to explore aspects of nature a

long with a corresponding season.
